68,745 domains referencing the 2026 World Cup

Registration volume climbed steeply through 2026, and June closed as the biggest month yet — 24,268 of these names were registered in June alone. 63% of the set was filed from 1 May onward.

These are the domains registered in the nine complete days before the 2 July snapshot — 2,519 across 22–30 June.

The dataset is the set of current domain registrations containing tournament strings anywhere in the name, across several languages (counts overlap, as many names contain more than one).

A handful of recurring free-mailbox addresses account for a large share of the dataset. Each funnels almost exclusively through a single registrar and a single name-server provider — a pattern consistent with coordinated, automated registration rather than thousands of independent registrants. Registrant emails are partially masked.

How the registrations distribute across the supporting infrastructure. Counts reflect the full deduplicated dataset and show heavy concentration in a small number of registrars, name-server providers and TLDs.

What the names suggest they are for. Betting and streaming terms lead, followed by prediction, app-download and news naming — activity aimed at fan attention around the tournament. Themes overlap and describe apparent intent from the name only.

This report draws on WhoisXML API’s domain and DNS intelligence, covering current domain registrations whose names reference the 2026 World Cup, together with their registration details. The set of over 17,000 domains cited in earlier coverage reflects the initial search strings; the figures here come from a wider analysis across additional languages, transliterations and string families, of which the earlier set is a subset. It combines captures taken on 18 June, 22 June and 2 July 2026: domains appearing in more than one capture are merged and counted once, keeping the most recent record for current-state fields and the original creation date, so the headline figures reflect the complete 68,745-domain set. Timing counts are by creation date — 2,519 names were registered on the nine complete days, 22–30 June, with a further 79 dated 1 July held out, as that day was still in progress at the snapshot. All figures are computed from the full set; the explorer shows a representative 1,000-domain sample with registrant emails partially masked, and registrar names were normalized to merge variants of the same company. Naming themes are derived from keywords in the domain names and describe apparent intent only; inclusion does not confirm affiliation with, or infringement of, any trademark, nor establish any connection to wrongdoing, and some domains may belong to legitimate fan, media, journalism or commentary projects. Registrant countries for privacy-proxied domains reflect the proxy service’s address (for one widely used service, Iceland) rather than the registrant’s. Data as of 2026-07-02.
